Torikai Hachiman Shrine Annual Autumn Festival

The annual autumn festival will be held on October 20, 2024 at Torikai Hachiman Shrine near FBI AWAJI.

It is possible to observe and participate while staying at FBI AWAJI!

 

What is “Torikai Hachiman Shrine Reitaisai”?

It is held at Torikai Hachiman Shrine on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. This annual festival is said to have a 200-year tradition, featuring FUNA DANJIRI (festival float) and taiko drums.

A tug-of-war is held to predict whether there will be a good harvest or a big catch. The ship shaped festival float “Danjiri” , in particular, is a nationally designated important cultural property. It’s a very impressive sight to see them running up the 13 steep stone steps while shouting and chanting.
